Energy and We
June 11, 2007
Below is a list of links that will help you find ways to save energy and money:
White Fence Cool little site to help you with a move or a transfer:
https://www.whitefence.com/
Energy Guide Find ways to save, lower your bills and help the earth's environment. I clicked on the linked word "unbiased" but it only took me to a blank page. That was kinda funny:

Note: I'd never heard of a Swamp Cooler but they show you who can install and maintain one. A Swamp Cooler is just an evaporative cooler. My grandparents had one for their a/c. It worked very well.
Power to Choose This is the site my Nazi electricity company sent me to. It lists about all the providers who service my area and then some:

Fire the Grid
July 11, 2007
I was just turned onto these videos (below) made by a woman named Shelley Yates. At first I thought she was an artist because I'd found her via an art site, but she is something entirely different. Through a very profound experience she became enlightened and, from what I've been reading, has let go of her atheism in favor of the Divine. And then some.
Next Tuesday, July 17th, local time 6:11am, there will be a joining of folks all over the globe who will meditate for one hour. I intend to participate in this, either at our local meditation center provider or just meditate here at the house. It is to reunite all of human life into their original grid, which we apparently separated from thousands of years ago so that we may have free will. With this meditation, humans are to pour their positive energy into our ailing planet and begin work to heal her aura.
But instead of going into how Shelley came upon this, or where the term "fire the grid" came from, please visit her site and watch her videos:
Shelley's videos (I got past her idea of atheism and alien beings and embraced her light beings as a sort of group of spirits or angels) http://youtube.com/watch?v=cqUAluDvuU4
the videos are in several parts, but I only had to watch 3 or 4 to get her gist
Let me add this from the website:
Now to all of you who were like me, I issue a challenge. Suspend your scepticism for just one hour of your life, and just sit, alone or with others, to think about the beauty of this planet, to appreciate all that you have and all that you are, and to give hope for an improved future for us all.

Animal Rescue
April 6 , 2007
Plenty of irons in the fire now. Websites churning, wind bells clanging, trees painted (but not yet finished) and friends coming in for art and festivities - if only the rains would hold off awhile!
Since a close friend was recently wanting to adopt out a mama cat and kittens who had been left at her place, I wanted to put up a short list of organizations who offer adoption and an option to no-kill shelters:
Friends for Life
http://www.nokill1.org/index.htm
Rescue Bank
http://www.rescuebank.org/
Houston Cat Rescue
http://www.jugglingcats.com/rescue/houston_cat_rescue.htm
Adopt a Cat Houston
http://www.adoptacathouston.org/
Truly a short list, but a good one. Please take a look and help out if you can. Our animals have been gifted to us to learn about how to love and we are the sole caretakers of these beautiful creatures. What we do now will go down in the ledgers as what we really are all about.
The New Raping of the Forest
February 1, 2007
I just returned from a gathering at the Artery with Peruvian indigienous people. I learned a LOT. I thought I knew what was happening, but I didn't know squat. For just a handful of years, people have been dying because American (Texan... Houston) oil companies have gone in to drill for oil, promising these people "progress." These people have been living their way of life, this beautiful symbiotic symphony of existence, for centuries. Our modern American oil companies have gone in and promised them progress in exchange for their very lives.
They believed us. Since 2001, oil companies around the world have been buying out the rainforests. Yeah, America isn't the only culprit. Nope. China has a lotta stock in this one. They're hungry for power. Hungry for oil. Why not? We made them that way. We set the example. We did a damned good job, didn't we.
I am so pissed off. Of course the oil companies aren't going to tell us this. The media didn't have much clue except those who actually gave a damn, and even those articles that were published weren't front-page news. And now the lungs of our earth, the very heart and soul of our health, are diminishing. We slowed the "progress" of the clear cutting and implemented sustainable ways of harvesting the parts of trees and plants of the rainforest that show promise for the cure for disease, but this is a Goliath that will be difficult to overcome.
Already, in just a year and a half, oil companies have gone in and raped many communities, small villages and tribal areas, so fiercely and completely that it will take decades and perhaps over a century to recover. The oil companies promise a thorough clean-up. They merely covered their area, usually about 10 kilometers in diameter, with a few inches of clay. Stepping on this clay is to sink to about waste deep in crude oil muck. This crap gets into the water, the plants, kills every living thing it touches. The people of these lands didn't know what they were doing until it was too late.
They drank the water. They bathed their children in the water. They ate the fish. It was all contaminated and now they are contaminated. Their children have open pustules on their skin, face, necks, everywhere. You can imagine what is happening to the inside of their bodies.
Do you think they ever wanted "progress?" What the hell are they going to do with new shoes? Jackets? Gold earrings? They have lived this beautiful life in this beautiful place until we destroyed it, and them.
What are you going to do?

Travel Emissions
The new trend in travel is offsetting your travel emissions. There are a couple of sites now that will calculate your energy use and C02 emissions, then display a dollar amount that you can "donate" to help the company work toward sustainable energy solutions.
I was reading about a woman who had taken a trip from the UK to a small island off the coast of Sri Lanka and, at the end of the article, she gave a (UK) site that will do the emissions calculations:
Climate Care
http://www.climatecare.org/
I am researching to find US sites that will do the same on US soil. Evidently, the UK has a bit more going for it in the way of emission-offsetting than we do, but we're pulling up the rear. Here is what I found:
Wind Power by Pembina - Emissions Offset Calculator
http://www.pembina.org/wind/wind_power_travel.php
Offset your travel flights or your vehicle with donations that will purchase green power that creates zero carbon emissions.
CarbonBalance (in association with World Land Trust) http://www.carbonbalanced.org/personal/pcboffset.htm
Offers Lifestyle, Travel, Fixed and Custom calculators to find the carbon emissions in your way of living.
Climate Crisis
http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/
Calculate your energy use at http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/. I'm embarrassed to tell you what mine was.
