Greece
Athens, the Acropolis

Temple of Zeus, from the Acropolis
We didn't know what this was when we first saw it, but later, visited it upclose. It is the Temple of Zeus, down within the city. And guess who had a hand in finishing this monolithic structure. Why, my favorite gay emperor, that's who!!!

Temple of Nike
Nike makes a great shoe. Hell, you would need them, what with that jump up to the front door!

The Erechtheion
The Erechtheion. This is where Athena was to ready for her performances during the rituals and the Caryatids were there to egg her on. They stand in silent witness to the aging of the city. Hey, Athens sucks, but the Acropolis is grand. Worth the cigarette smoke and cabdrivers.

The Erechtheion Window
This is a window, through which I could see another Temple on top of old Acropolis. Just look at that stuff laying about. If my pockets were bigger...

column in the Propylaea, or Entrance
A column toward the entrance. Were this in color, you couldn't catch the nuances of the shadows and light playing upon the stone columns. Yep. That's what we were after. Nuances in shadows and light. And they were titanic in size. I like 'em old, and I like 'em big.
and in the City of Athens...

Old building back in the city
There were no signs, no plaque, nothing to indicate what this was, just a lot of construction going on around it. I prayed they weren't tearing it down, whatever it was. Those Athenians, who knows what they're thinking?
But wait, there's more!...
