Roma!!!

The Forum
The Temple of Castor and Pollux.

This is the the temple of Castor and Pollux (the three-columned piece), at the Forum in Rome. Behind that, you see the temple of Antoninus and Faustina. It was impressive, awe-inspiring, beautiful. Though there had been an ancient temple here since the 5th century BC, the columns and elaborate cornice date from AD 6 when the temple was rebuilt.

This was the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina.

This was the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, one of the oldest buildings on the site, still standing.
It is also the site of the execution of St Lawrence. He was burned alive.
It is now incorporated into the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda.
Awwwwwh! How touching, to crawfish and grovel and name a church after him.
A little late, don't you think?

some of our party sitting around
Who are these people?

Here we are on the Via Sacra, one of the very oldest streets in the ancient world. We sat around and listened to the over-grads give their rendition of what went on at the Forum.
Funny thing happened on the way...

Big columns
Temple of Saturn

This was what was left of the Festival of Saturn, in the old Saturn building. No, kids, NOT the car. Saturn was a god long before he was a planet or a car.
Show a little respect..

Pidgeon
Breakfast Pidgeon

This was our breakfast guest at our favorite little breakfast place around the corner.
I painted him pink and blue, so that you could see him.
They served "American" coffee. I don't know which was stronger: that or espresso.

More Rome to come!...
