More Roma!

The Forum
The Forum in Color.

A panoramic view of the Forum. What a gorgeous sight this was to behold, coming over the hill. It took my breath away. You're actually looking down upon the Arch of Septimius Severus and a courtyard, the seat of the Magistrate's court, Basilica Julia, after Julius Caesar, who began construction in 54 BC. Well, HE didn't actually construct it, his so called "men" did.

The Colosseum
The Colosseum.

This is the very impressive Colosseum. The ancient version of Television. ViolentVision, I like to call it. And there, at the top, you see the fornica. Sailors would come into town and the more worldly maidens would escort them to the top and... well, you'll just have to use your imagination.

The Arch of Constantine. He built a lot of large outcroppings in Rome.
Mr Conqueror, to be sure.
Yet another view
Get my drift?

See, I told you. Big stuff. Had a lot of story-telling on it, too. And it was pretty much in one piece. More than I could say for the Colosseum.
The Forum, in color
The Temple of Saturn again.

The Temple of Saturn again. What fun they must have had. The guide said that Saturn would rise up from his temple and go milling about. Wouldn't THAT be a sight to see?

The Forum again
The forum again

The lone column in the center was the Rostra, the orator's tribune from which speeches were made. BlahBlahBlah, they would say, but in Latin. That's the Arch of Titus in the middle, right behind the Rostra, and the light-colored buildings in the background are the more modern nodes of government. The plain pink building on the far right is the old senate building, or The Curia. It has been reconstructed.

The lobby of our hotel
The St Regis Lobby

I would be remiss in not including our hotel lobby. It was quite nice, though the elevators were smaller than a broom closet.

More Roman Holiday!!
